Alexander Technique

F. Matthias Alexander (1869-1955) was an Australian actor and teacher. Originally, he came up with specific movements and body repatterning for the use of vocal training. Alexander's technique of vocal training developed into a technique he termed "respiratory re-education." In time he realized that this re-training was usefull in rebalancing the body in general, and that in fact as he kept applying the same techniques to non-specific people, they seemed to get better from whatever ailments were afflicting them.Alexander's technique of vocal training developed into a technique he termed "respiratory re-education." Alexander recognized many of the body's functions went hand in hand with breathing patterns. Many problems such as low back pain, are often symptoms of a larger habitual patterns of malcoordination.

Therefore, the Alexander technique addresses main muscle groups that are geared toward posture, and diaphragmatic use, as well as balance.
