THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE

The Bowen technique is a hands-on therapy that helps relieve all kinds of pain; it is so gentle that it can be used on anyone, from newborn infants to the elderly.
It is not massage, acupressure or chiropractic. There is no manipulation, adjustment or force used. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to gently move muscles and tissues. Between maneuvers applied, the therapist leaves the room to allow the person to adjust on their own. This structure is what makes the Bowen technique so unique.

The Bowen technique provides rapid, long-lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Most conditions respond within 2-3 treatments. It also has the ability to help speed up recovery time. However, the Bowen Technique is not meant to replace medical treatment.

The Bowen Technique was developed in the 1950s by an Australian named Tom Bowen. He successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of a series of gentle, precise moves on specific muscles, tendons and nerves to relieve all kinds of muscular, skeletal or nerve imbalance injury in acute and chronic conditions. It produces a deep relaxation and in some cases an emotional release. It is so gentle it can be used on anyone from infants to the elderly, and has been demonstrated to be useful on animals.

Over ten years of research has shown that the Bowen Technique therapy balances the autonomic nervous system, and therefore works on a variety of different conditions, i.e., stress, headaches, TMJ, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and arthritis. There are many other instances of sports and work related injuries – knee, elbow and ankle among them – that have been successfully treated with the Bowen Technique therapy.
