A small battery operated unit, created to conduct low frequency vibration, or impulses on to a muscle or muscle group (via skin surface). The abreviation stands for: Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). It is often used in rehabilitative situations such as acute and chronic pain, also as a side treatment in post surgical pain to modify the body’s pain perception.
